Chiang Mai has relatively few condominium buildings of a
reasonable standard. These tend to be near the centre of the city beside
the river or in the much favoured Nimmanheiman and Huaew Kaew Road areas
on the same side of the city as Doi Suthep. Also near Doi Suthep there are
a few new condominium buildings under development along Canal Road.
There are many estates of detached houses surrounding the
city that are excellent value.
Chiang Mai has a very large university student population
and there are many cheap one-room apartment buildings with a high
proportion of students as tenants.
In general, property values in Chiang Mai have risen
steadily without the upsurge in prices seen recently in Bangkok, Phuket,
Pattaya, or Hua Hin. As such, property prices are comparatively low yet
trending upwards as buyers and tenants seek good value in this pleasant,
cosmopolitan city.
